Delectable Cupcakes

February 23, 2013

I made these cupcakes for a luncheon celebrating a baby's christening. I'm usually asked to make cupcakes with a focus mostly on the design by incorporating specific colors, themes, characters, etc., so it was exciting to get the opportunity to pretty much just focus on TASTE!! The request was made for two varieties of cupcakes...something chocolate and something strawberry.

The cupcake on the left is for true chocolate lovers as the cake is a dark chocolate dipped in chocolate ganache then iced with a decadent chocolate buttercream & topped with mini morsels. For adults, I'm thinking a perfect complement to a glass of dry red on a Friday night.

The cupcake on the right is a perfect complement to a Spring or Summertime event or possibly a lunchtime dessert as the vanilla cake & strawberry filling iced with a strawberry buttercream is much lighter in taste.

Both were delicious & looking forward to further experimenting with taste combinations!!

Scooby Doo Space Cupcakes

February 16, 2013

I received a request for cupcakes for a Scooby Doo Space themed party for a little girl. The mom sent me a picture of cupcakes she had found online of aliens in plastic sundae cups....or, spaceships. ;) Each Scooby was molded by hand out of edible fondant. Antennas were added behind Scooby's ears as a final touch to the space theme.

Pink Flowers Wedding Cake

October 6, 2012

This cake was made for my good friend's brother's wedding. The couple lives out of state so prior to the wedding the bride sent me several photo ideas, fabric swatches, and the specially engraved wedding topper. The collaboration of ideas resulted in the final cake with alternating vanilla & chocolate flavored tiers, a traditional buttercream icing, horizontal piping, and handmade edible flowers.

Pink Lemonade Cupcakes

September 16, 2012

These pink lemonade cupcakes were made for a little girl's first birthday party with a lemonade stand theme. The inspiration came from the following blog: http://alittleloveliness.blogspot.com/2011/04/pink-lemonade-cupcakes.html. The ones below are a vanilla cake and buttercream icing, but it makes me think how the possibilities for "drink-themed" cupcakes are endless and I look forward to making many more.....maybe milkshakes, margaritas, root beer floats, daquiris..... =)

Pink & Black Wedding

August 19, 2012

This was the display at my cousin's wedding reception, which was held inside an old barn....completely redone and really cool barn....at The Hayloft in Rockwood, PA. The colors of the wedding were bright pink and black. I basically just wanted to incorporate all the colors through the use of variety and not have everything be so uniform and identical. The 130 cupcakes were vanilla and chocolate with buttercream icing while the over 100 cake pops were a mixture of double dark chocolate, white vanilla, and butter pecan. The top tier cake was used for the cutting of the cake by the bride and groom.

West Virginia Groom's Cake

August 18, 2012

For my cousin's wedding, she asked if I would make a groom's cake for her "to be husband" that they could display and serve at the rehearsal dinner. She pretty much gave me complete freedom to do what I wanted other than giving me his interests of WVU, fishing, and the guitar. I thought about doing any one of those ideas; however, at the last minute, I decided to combine them and came up with this all-emcompassing design. I found out at the wedding that Chris (the groom) was a bit more impacted by the crossed-out "fishin'" than I had intended so I needed to reminded him it was supposed to be funny....like haha...so hopefully he's okay now....guess boys will be boys after all =)
